Police and Crime Update pdf icon PDF 1 MB

To receive a presentation on Police and Crime in the borough.

    Minutes:

Inspector Steve Rides and Sergeant Ian Corbett provided the Committee with updated information on Police and Crime in the Hyndburn area.  A report was submitted showing Police performance data for the Hyndburn CSP between 1st April 2017 and 28th February 2018.  Inspector Rides reported that there had been an increase in all crime but also pointed out that methods of recording crime had changed so a direct comparison with previous statistical information would be difficult.  In addition the reporting of historical crime had also had an impact on figures.  He referred to the importance of community intelligence in resolving crimes.

The Committee previously submitted advanced questions for response by the Police and Inspector Rides and Sergeant Corbett provided a response.  A summary follows:

    ·         All crime should now to be recorded within 24 hours of the crime being reported whereas previously this could have taken up to 3 days.

    ·         National awareness campaigns of domestic abuse and confidence in reporting these crimes could have contributed towards an increase in reporting.

    ·         Town Centre meetings were being held to re-launch pub watch.

    ·         An intelligence led Police task patrol operated each evening to prevent burglaries.

    ·         Hotspot mapping and putting resources in the right place along with organising a Youth Panel was part of a plan to further reduce anti-social behaviour.

    ·         There had been no further reductions in the number of Police Officers in Hyndburn.

Resolved                               -   That the report be noted.
